King's Lynn Town appoint interim boss as Tommy Widdrington departs for Aldershot
First Team Coach Mark Hughes will take charge after the shock departure of Widdrington
King's Lynn Town have appointed First Team Coach Mark Hughes as the club's interim manager, following the sudden departure of Tommy Widdrington over the weekend.
Hugo Langton and Paul Jones will assist Hughes as part of the coaching staff.
Widdrington's departure over the weekend apparently caught officials at The Walks by surprise, with National League side Aldershot Town annoucing that he was taking over as their first team manager.
The Shots are currently 19th in the National League and at risk of being drawn into a relegation battle. The Linnets meanwhile remain 2nd in the National League North following a 1 - nil win over Chorley.
In a statement posted on Sunday, King's Lynn Town said: "The Club are disappointed to have been told by our manager Tommy Widdrington this evening that he is resigning in order to take up an alternative post at another club."
"Tommy is under contract with us, and the club in question have not contacted us to seek to reach an agreement and nor has Tommy sought to reach an agreement that would allow us to waive the contractual position.
"We would not stand in the way of a manager (or player) who wished to progress to a higher level and has the opportunity to do so, but such matters need to be dealt with professionally and legally.
"We very much hope a swift resolution will be reached, as an alternative to a legal process.
"Tommy has made it clear that he has resigned with immediate effect (irrespective of his contractual obligations to the Club)."
