A group of campaigners from King's Lynn have been in London today to call for action over the cost of living crisis.

They're also pressing the Department of Health to urgently commit to rebuilding the town's Queen Elizabeth Hospital, which is reaching the end of its lifespan.

We can reveal there are now 3,397 props holding up the roof of the ageing building.

Alice Webster, Acting Chief Executive at QEH: "We are hoping for an urgent and positive decision about funding for a new hospital as QEH has an end of life date of 2030.”

Campaigners have met with West Norfolk MP James Wild and have held a rally outside the Department of Health wearing hard hats and hi-vis.

Springwood Councillor and TUC representative Jo Rust explained “There’s a dual purpose for this trip to Westminster."

"We’ll be speaking to our MP about how the cost of living crisis is affecting his residents and we will be calling on him to do more to help them.

"The new Prime Minister has no mandate to govern and we need a general election now. No one voted for more tax cuts for the 1%.

"We want local government budgets to be uprated in line with inflation and we want a minimum of ÂŁ15 an hour wage for all.

"The attacks on workers rights and our right to protest must stop and the government must roll back on the imposition of a minimum service level which undermines strike action.

"In addition we will be stopping outside the Department for Health and Social Care to demonstrate about our urgent need for a new hospital.

"With over 3500 props something must be done and be done soon.

"We should not be faced with further delays just because the Conservative Party is imploding.

"Time is of the essence and we must have an announcement now”.
