Jenny Lind Children's Hospital in Norwich is celebrating its 167th birthday today (3rd April), in what it says promises to be a special year.

Work on a £6.5m expansion at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital has already started, with work underway on a new twin paediatric theatre suite, a six-bay recovery unit, and other associated works.

Designs for a critical care area with the children's hospital are also being developed, with work hoping to start on those later this year.

Thousands of children are cared for at the hospital each year, with hundreds of babies looked after in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).

Laura Schaffer, Divisional Operations Director for Women and Children, said: "This is a hugely exciting year for the Jenny Lind as we embark on our exciting expansion project.

"We hope you will all support us as we transform our environment for children and young people."

Made possible by donations

The work has been made possible thanks to donations to the hospital's charity.

It received more than £14,000 recently from Simon Kindleysides who raised the money walking with his exoskeleton suit during the latest lockdown.

Despite being paralysed, Simon managed to walk 8,000 steps each day of February.

NNUH Biomedical Support Worker and baker Reece Durrant baked cakes to celebrate Jenny Lind Day, along with a video showing how to make them.

And, later on this year, one of the hospital's young patient's parents is going to be taking on the Welsh 3000 to raise money for the hospital.
