James Paget Hospital steps down from 'critical incident' status as pressure eases
Hospital bosses are still urging people with non-urgent problems to avoid the emergency department
A Norfolk hospital says its stepped down from 'critical incident' status, as pressure on its services has eased.
The James Paget in Gorleston decided to ask for extra help on Monday night because of demand on its A&e.
It also said it was struggling for bed-space due to high patient demand.
Critical incident status means the hospital trust can bring in extra measures to make sure it can keep patients safe.
A spokesperson for the hospital wrote: "Following an improvement in supporting patients across the hospital, especially those requiring urgent and emergency care, the James Paget has made the decision to step down its Critical Incident operational status."
"We are still experiencing high demand at our hospital, and continue to remind people to only attend Accident and Emergency if it is a genuine emergency.
"When needing urgent medical care but it’s not an emergency, visit NHS 111 online or call NHS 111 for advice on how to get care at any time of day or night."
