A man has been jailed for a string of motor vehicle offences, fraud, and shoplifting in Norfolk.

Ross Warner, aged 31, of no fixed abode, appeared before Norwich Magistrates Court yesterday {Thursday 1 June).

He was sentenced to eight weeks in prison and ordered to pay compensation of over £1500 to one of his victims.

It comes after he was arrested and charged in connection with a theft from a motor vehicle in Bell Close on 1 November 2022, which he admitted.

He went on to engage with the Norfolk Operation Converter team admitting to eight more offences that were taken into consideration by the court.

Of these, five were related to further thefts from motor vehicles on the same night in the same area of Taverham.

There was also one offence of an attempted theft from a motor vehicle, one of fraud in which bank cards stolen from a vehicle were used to purchase items from a Nike, and one of shoplifting where two bottles of gin were stolen from a supermarket.

Items stolen from the vehicles included loose change and sunglasses.

One victim, however, lost items worth £1573.94 including a MacBook, headphones, and clothing.

What is Operation Converter?

Operation Converter is an initiative aimed at encouraging offenders to admit to their crimes.

It gives the offender the chance to clear their slate and a have a fresh start when they are released from prison.

Offenders have to give sufficient detail for officers to be sure they have committed the crime and these offences are then ‘taken into consideration’ at sentencing.
