Have your say on latest Transport for Norwich proposals
Consultations are now open
Plans to improve sustainable transport facilities in four areas of the city have been put forward and members of the public are being asked to share their views on the proposals.
Consultations on changes to South Park Avenue, Cromer Road/Aylsham Road, St Stephens Road and King Street are all underway, with proposed improvements including measures for people who cycle, walk and use the bus network.
The projects on King Street and St Stephens Road focus on creating a better environment for cycling and walking, while just over a kilometre of new bus lane on Cromer Road/Aylsham Road aims to reduce bus journey times into the city.
Proposals for South Park Avenue also make more room for buses through widening the road and creating a larger bus stop layby, allowing buses to pass each other without slowing down or stopping along the busy route. Better crossing facilities for people accessing Eaton Park on foot are also part of the plans.
All projects are part of the Transport for Norwich (TfN) programme of improvements being funded by the Department for Transport's Transforming Cities Fund.
Councillor Martin Wilby, Norfolk County Council's cabinet member for highways, infrastructure and transport, and chair of the transforming cities joint committee, said:
"We're committed to working with our Transport for Norwich partners to make the most of the government's investment in our sustainable transport network.
"Each of the proposals we've put forward aims to improve facilities for those who travel around the city by cycling, walking and bus, while also creating better links to help more people access jobs, training and retail through cleaner modes of transport.
"We'd like feedback on the plans from anyone who lives in or uses these areas to help shape the final projects put forward for construction."
Residents in each of the immediate project areas have been written to with details of the proposals and information on how to share their views.
The deadline for comments on all projects is 10am on Wednesday 10 February 2021. Responses will be carefully considered and the outcomes reported back to the Transforming Cities Fund Joint Committee later in the year.
The committee, which is chaired by Norfolk County Council and made up of councillors from TfN partners Norwich City, Broadland District and South Norfolk councils, will then decide how to proceed with the project.
