Great Yarmouth's Third River Crossing to be named in public vote
Locals will now decided on the final name of the new bridge
The public is being given the final say on the name for Great Yarmouth's new Third River Crossing - with a vote on five different options.
A naming competition was held last autumn encouraging people to send in their suggestions.
A list of 300 has now been whittled down to a final five by a special naming committee.
The shortlisted options are:
- Britannia Bridge
- Queens Gate
- Yare Bridge
- Herring Bridge
- Kings Bridge
ÂŁ120m is being spent on the new crossing which inks the A47 to the port and enterprise zone via South Denes Road.
It's hoped the project, due to be completed in the summer, will ease traffic congestion on local roads and attract more investment into the town.
Councillor Graham Plant, current Mayor of Great Yarmouth said: “I’m delighted with the fantastic level of participation in the competition so far."
"After much discussion we’ve tried to come up with a list of options that reflect the most popular themes put forward and its now down to the public to decide.
"I feel confident whichever name is chosen will be one the town can be proud of for generations to come and I look forward to seeing this long awaited key piece of infrastructure for our region finally become a reality."
