A Norfolk man has appeared in court accused of the murder of a woman in a seaside town up to two days before she was found.

Adam Barnard, 40, appeared before Norwich Magistrates' Court charged with the murder of Tara Kershaw between January 18 and January 20 in Great Yarmouth.

The bearded defendant, who wore a blue jumper and had short brown hair, spoke only to confirm his personal details during Monday's brief hearing.

He was not asked to enter a plea.

Norfolk Police said the body of a woman, believed to be in her 30s, was discovered inside a property in Princes Road in Great Yarmouth after officers were alerted at 9.11am on January 20.

Barnard, of Princes Road, Great Yarmouth, was subsequently arrested and charged with murder.

Police said an initial post-mortem examination indicated that the woman's death was consistent with compression to the neck.

Barnard was remanded in custody and is due to appear before Norwich Crown Court on Tuesday for a preliminary hearing.

Norfolk Police has referred itself to the Independent Office for Police Conduct over previous police contact before the woman died.
