Former doctor from Norwich releases debut album
It features modern adaptions of twelve songs including Scarborough Fair” and “Abide with Me”
A former doctor from Norwich has released her debut album today.
Harriet Fraser, who now lives in the US, sings modern renditions of “Scarborough Fair” and “Abide with Me” on her opera a cappella collection, called 'Peace'.
She told us this that album brings together two of her passions
"I just felt that I need to do something to help with the global anxiety and fear. This is really what I set out to do, to marry the medicine and the singing. To give this as a gift to help sooth, calm fears and help people during such an uncertain time".
Ms Fraser also told us that growing up in Norwich helped drive her passion for music and medicine.
"I loved growing up in Norwich. I was always into music, as were my brothers and sisters, we got very involved in all the music that Norwich had to offer. That's really what set me off, even when I studied medicine first, music has always been such a big part of my life and that's why I went off to music college after studying medicine".
She went on to say that she's had help from the very best in creating this.
"My grandparents used to sing the hymn all through the night and that was the one that struck me and I remember. So, I was in touch with quite a well know composer, Shawn Kirchner and he offered to arrange it for me, into three parts, because I'd made myself a make-shift recording studio, at my house"
Harriet concluded saying that this album could be the first of many.
"I do plan to continue working at home and I'm starting to think about the new project, but I'm not sure what that's going to be. I've really enjoyed the process and hope to continue. The thing is, its really come out of the pandemic, basically me singing with myself".
