The two-day Old Buckenham Airshow opens its gates today (Saturday 31st July) to the public for the first time in two years.

This year it's boasting almost 40 aircraft and 36 acts - making it the biggest event they've hosted yet.

The famous Spitfire MH434, and also the Mark 1 Spitfire, have also been added to the lineup as a last minute addition, thanks to the Imperial War Museum Duxford.

The airfield will only welcome 15% of its capacity though to meet safety restrictions.

Matt Wilkins, Old Buckenham Airshow organiser and Chairman of the British Air Display Association told us: “It’s wonderful to be back. This year will be very different as we will do it in the safest possible way in line with Government guidance, but the two-year gap has enabled us to build greater relationships with a lot of people.”

Among those displaying this weekend is the Royal Air Force Eurofighter Typhoon jet.

There will be many firsts for the Airshow this year, including the first-ever two human beings to fly in formation side by side through a building, and the unveiling of the first solar-powered electric aircraft point in the world.

Matt Wilkins added: “This accompanies our solar-powered aircraft project, which is designed to open up the third world, and, frankly, it’s going to be the future of flights, so that’s extremely exciting.”

There's much more than just aircraft on display though with everything from a funfair to classic cars, a gourmet food village, and even military displays.

Unlike in previous years there will be no attractions indoors, and people heading to the airshow are being encouraged to consider wearing a mask.
