Man charged after woman killed in Stalham hit and run

A 68 year old man has been accused of causing death by dangerous driving

A man has been charged after a woman was killed in a hit and run crash in Stalham on Sunday.

Police say a silver Lexus car and two pedestrians were involved in the collision on the A149 between Stepping Stone Lane and Old Market Road at around 4.30pm.

The car failed to stop at the scene but crashed a short time later into a road sign near to Tesco.

One of the pedestrians, now named as 20 year old Fenella Hawes, died at the scene.

The second, a 16 year-old girl, was taken to hospital with serious arm injuries - she has now been discharged.

The Lexus driver, 68 year old Malcolm Waite, of Meadow Drive in Hoveton, has subsequently been charged with causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

He appeared at Norwich Magistrates' Court today and has been remanded in custody ahead of an apperance at Norwich Crown Court in September.
