Expansion of Wymondham school celebrated

It'll be able to take in more pupils than ever

Wymondham High Academy has seen many new features built - and can now cater for 375 more pupils than before.

The expansion of the current school site at Wymondham was successfully completed on Friday 22 January adding 800m2 of new floor space. The developments include a new library space, an extended dining room facility and a new drama studio in the heart of the school. The expansion also included the remodelling of the schools' main reception and entrance.

NPS Property Consultants Multi-Disciplinary Design Team and Main Contractor Morgan Sindall had a difficult task working through complex Covid conditions. Despite these restrictions and ensuring the school remained fully operational throughout both worked effortlessly to deliver a good result.

Cllr John Fisher, Cabinet Member for Children's Services at Norfolk County Council, said:

"The new Wymondham High Academy is a lovely building with light and bright learning spaces and enhanced dining facilities.

"We have been extremely pleased with the design of the school - which now complete has taken us a further step towards our aim of providing the highest quality learning environments for all children in Norfolk.

"Well done to everyone involved for such a successful delivery of a project, built during such difficult times."

Cllr Joe Mooney, Wymondham said:

"I am really pleased with the much-needed expansion which has been delivered to support local education. This new space allows the school and its pupils to continue to proudly grow and learn, providing the facilities, resources and learning spaces needed to equip pupils for now and beyond.

"Thank you to everyone who has worked so hard to make this happen, particularly in such challenging times"

The Norfolk County Council funding of £4m This is part of a wider Schools Capital funding pulled together by the council. The Schools Capital Programme is a delivery plan for the growth agenda school place.

Principal, Jonathan Rockey, Wymondham High Academy said:

"We are hugely grateful to Norfolk County Council for funding these improved facilities. We are now able to provide our pupils with a superb library in addition to a canteen capable of holding in excess of 300 children.

"Our new performance studio is a very welcome addition to a school that greatly values the performing arts. The project will make a fundamental difference to the way in which pupils can achieve great outcomes."
