Driver jailed for causing death of Norwich cyclist
31-year-old Ian Mooney died from injuries after the collision on Aylsham Road.
Police were called to the incident at around 4pm on 3rd April 2018 involving a black Audi Q7 and cyclist.
Mr Mooney was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital with life-threatening injuries, where he died a few days later.
The driver of the Audi was arrested and charged following an investigation.
39-year-old Aaron Evans, of Earles Garden, pleaded guilty to one count of causing death by careless driving at Norwich Magistrates' Court earlier this year.
During a separate investigation in 2019 including Norfolk, Metropolitan and Surrey Police forces, sixteen stolen vehicles were recovered after being professionally altered and registered to appear legitimate.
They were mostly seized in Norfolk between May and August that year and totalled more than £200,000 in value.
Aaron Evans was found to have control of the majority of vehicles shortly after the thefts and was involved in obtaining seemingly legitimate documents for them.
He was charged with 12 counts of handling stolen goods and later pleaded guilty to five counts, with the remaining counts ordered to lie on file.
Evans was sentenced on Wednesday 22 October 2020 to 30 months in prison for causing death by careless driving and handling stolen goods.
He was also given a driving ban.
Speaking after the investigation into the death of Ian Mooney, PC Martyn Homes of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "This was a tragic incident in which an innocent young man lost his life, as a result of the irresponsible and selfish behaviour of one individual.
"We heard in court yesterday that Evans has repeatedly shown a complete disregard for others, and has left one family in particular, heartbroken."
