Disused chapel in North Norfolk village set to become holiday home
Developers have submitted plans to convert the abandoned church on Pennygate Lane in Barton Turf
A disused 100-year-old Methodist Chapel on the edge of a Norfolk village looks set to become a holiday let.
Developers have submitted plans to convert the abandoned church on Pennygate Lane in Barton Turf into holiday accommodation.
A planning application submitted to North Norfolk District Council said the site is “perfectly located” for tourism, with good access to the Norfolk Broads and would help support the local economy.
A small chapel was first built in 1845 but rebuilt in its current form in 1914.
The congregation has dwindled over the years down to nothing and the building is currently closed.
A planning statement submitted with the application said: “The owners of Chapel Cottage have lived adjacent (and linked) to the former church for some years and have now been offered the chance to purchase it after it became clear that its use as a methodist chapel was no longer required.
“There is a clear demand for this type of accommodation with people actively seeking quirky and interesting places to stay.”
The application will be decided in due course.
