Cromer Carnival cancelled for summer of 2021
Organisers have confirmed the event won't be going ahead.
Organisers of the Cromer Carnival have confirmed that this year's event won't be going ahead.
The Carnival Committee has decided that the potential of some restrictions still being in place in July and August means that they don't feel they can go ahead.
They said: "Cromer Carnival works on an extremely tight budget each year with a small profit margin of a few thousand pounds.
"On occasions, there has been no profit and we have had to eat into reserves or hold back on proposed projects for the coming year.
"The greater part of our financial outlay is made between January and May, when contracts have to be entered into and deposits paid on arena acts, bands, marquees, toilets and licenses for road closures and traffic orders, applied for well in advance of carnival week.
"In addition, the equipment, where necessary, has to be renewed and stock for the bar and various food outlets have to be ordered and paid for in advance."
As well as tight budgets, organisers confirmed a lot of advertising and sponsorship for the event comes from local businesses, and after the last 12 months they didn't feel it was right to expect their financial support this year.
Organisers confirmed that while finances had an influence on the decision, they also have a responsibility to those who would be attending the event.
Helpers which make the events flow would be in close contact with the public by manning gates and collecting buckets, and under the present restrictions organisers say they felt a responsibility not to put people in dangerous position, even if lockdown restrictions were eased to a certain extent.
They say in the meantime the committee will continue to meet and reassess the situation to see if any kind of event could be held safely this summer.
It is hoped it'll be back to normal again next year.
