Green Party co-leader wants the UK to lead environmental change at COP28
Adrian Ramsey is also running to be MP for the new Waveney Valley constituency, which is on the Norfolk/Suffolk border
The co-leader of the Green Party tells us he wants the UK to play a leadership role in making environmental change at COP 28.
It's as the climate change conference kicks off later this week in the United Arab Emirates.
Adrian Ramsey, who's also running to be MP for the new Waveney Valley constituency, which is on the Norfolk-Suffolk border, told us this is an opportunity for positive change: "We can be dealing with the impacts of climate change, we can be investing in a future where we have more renewable energy and better insulation, which would mean lower bills and warmer homes.
"We could have cleaner air with better public transport, and support for our farmers to produce more of our food locally."
He also told us what he wants to see on the agenda at the event: "Extreme weather patterns will be a huge issue.
"We have real opportunities to do what we need to address that if we do what the UN and others are saying we need to do - and step up our action, in terms of the investment that's going in and the pledges various countries are making."
Ramsey continued, saying he believes drastic steps must be taken soon: "The UK needs to deliver on the promises it's already made and step up it's ambitions if we're to avoid the worst effects of climate breakdown.
"We're already seeing the impact of that here in East Anglia, with the flooding we've had in recent weeks."
He does still believe work can be done to protect and save the environment though: "If we put the investment and focus into creating a greener future, we can achieve improvements for people - whether that's lower bills, warmer homes, better public transport, more support for our farmers... all these things that achieve a greener future will also be good for people."
