Coast Path boardwalk at Brancaster to be repaired by end of the year
It's after it was closed last year for safety reasons
A section of the Norfolk Coast Path which was closed last summer for safety reasons is set to reopen by the end of the year.
A mile long section of boardwalk along the 84 mile route at Brancaster will be restored using a state of the art new design meant to last long into the future.
The plans have taken a while to put together as the boardwalk is in one of Norfolk's most protected locations, sitting inside both an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Site of Special Scientific Interest.
Plans for a boardwalk designed to last 75 years are now being considered by Kings Lynn and West Norfolk Borough Council.
It will be made of recycled plastic designed to look like wood. It will also be wider and include more passing places to make it suitable for wheelchair users.
It's estimated the project will cost just over ÂŁ1m, with funding coming from organisations including Natural England.
Councillor Andrew Jamieson, Deputy Leader of Norfolk County Council said: “This is a really special location."
"We’ve looked rigorously at the costs and benefits of this spend and, in the long-term, this gives us by far the best value and outcome for public access, the wildlife and the businesses that thrive here.
"The path runs through some of the most spectacular scenery in the country and it is something that everyone should feel welcome and able to enjoy.”
