Canaries Trust continue collecting 'Shirt for Syria'
The supporters group are sending all donated club branded clothing to the Syrian Canaries by the end of the month
A campaign to collect all and any Norwich City brand clothing continues at Carrow Road today, ahead of the canaries clash with Man City.
'Shirts for Syria' was set up by the Canaries Trust earlier this month and aims to support fellow canaries in the war-torn country, by sending over donations by the end of the month.
Chris Newby is their vice-chairman who told us a bit more about the project: "Myself and some fellow Trust members will be stationed outside Carrow Road up to 90 minutes before kick-off.
We'll be in the corner in between the Regency Security Stand and South Stand, by the green container. It will be clearly marked so feel free to come up and visit us and we'll safely collect any merchandise that you may wish to donate.
It's all about providing a bit of joy and support to fellow fans, they are not in the living conditions that we are so lucky to enjoy- so it's all about giving back to those guys who support Norwich, just like us.
He told us that the campaign's been a long-time coming: "It was regularly talked about at board meetings how it would be good to do something for those guys, because they are living in horrendous conditions and supporting Norwich is something that gives them a bit of joy every week or so.
We want to appeal to Norwich fans to help with collecting any old bits of merchandise they don't use anymore that's lying around or in the closet".
He concluded by saying that this initiative could be the first of many: "We're always looking at different things we can do to serve supporters and help those who are not as fortunate as us and living in difficult conditions.
It's always good to give back and help those fans who need it. So, it's something that we'll no doubt look at during future board meetings".
