Broads visitors warned they risk losing limbs by dangling feet and arms off the back of boats
"You risk losing limbs, other injuries or even death"
The Broads Authority has issued a stark warning - saying people are at risk of losing limbs by dangling their arms and feet off the back of boats.
It says several young people were spotted doing just that last year, putting themselves in harms way.
In a post shared on Facebook, they're urging people to think about the propeller located at the back of the boat: "Just beneath the water... there is a sharp metal propeller used to power the boat which rotates extremely quickly, spinning thousands of times per minute...
"It may be obvious, but we're issuing a reminder for everyone to be aware of the dangers that boat propellers pose.
"You should not dangle your feet or arms over the edge, intentionally enter the water or try to re-embark at the back of a powered motor boat whilst the engine is on and the propeller spinning.
"You risk losing limbs, other injuries or even death."
This plea comes as hundreds of people head to the holiday hotspot this summer, with many planning to hire boats to get out on the water.
The authority also reminded people of the importance of wearing a lifejacket whilst out on the water: "We also recommend that visitors put these on whilst onboard their vessel or embarking/disembarking.
"Life jackets are supplied by boat yards as part of your hire or they can be purchased inexpensively from a number of retailers."
