Breckland Council is encouraging community groups in the district interested in delivering affordable community-led housing to come forward to access a share of a new £4 million national funding pot.

The fund will support applications for activities that help develop community-led housing proposals and works hand in hand with the recently launched Affordable Homes Programme which provides grant funding to support the capital costs of developing affordable housing.

This could be the first step in a community trust or partnership group to create long-term affordable homes with strong community links.

Breckland Council is now a member of Eastern Community Homes which offers technical support and small grants fund for community-led housing groups.

Cllr Paul Claussen, Executive Member for Economic Development and Growth at Breckland Council, commented:

"A home is more than just a roof over your head, it's about creating a place of safety and comfort within a strong community. This new national housing fund will help empower local groups to explore exciting opportunities to meet specific housing needs in their community."

"We are encouraging groups interested in exploring developing housing via a community-led scheme, which result in developing affordable homes that support local people, to make contact and see whether the fund can help turn local housing dreams into a reality."
