It's after staff who work for Serco backed strike action earlier this month

Bin workers and street cleaners in two parts of Norfolk are set to strike for a week next month, after talks to resolve a pay dispute failed.

It'll affect around 100 staff in Breckland and North Norfolk, with 99% backing walkouts.

Their employer Serco had put forward a new pay offer, but this has now also been rejected.

It means bins in both districts may go un-collected for a week from March 13.

UNISON Eastern regional organiser Cameron Matthews said: “It’s a real shame that Serco can’t dip into its incredibly deep pockets to pay its workers in Breckland and North Norfolk a fair wage.

“Unfortunately Serco seems willing to hit both workers and residents in their hard-headed desire to keep wages down.

“We urge the firm to come back around the negotiating table with a new, fair deal so we can avoid these strikes.”

UNISON says the door is still open to talks to avoid the walkouts.
