Tributes are being paid to one of Banham Zoo's most iconic residents, after the death of giraffe Fiona.

She's been a familiar sight at the zoo since 2007, when she moved from Fota Wildlife Park in Ireland.

Keepers say she'd been under close observation for several months due to ongoing health issues and 'this was the right time to say goodbye'.

In a statement on social media, zoo staff wrote: "our animal team have said she has been a joy to work with, occasionally revealing her stubborn side to the keepers."

"However, her calming nature always shone through.

"We know that the loss of Fiona will be felt by the team at Banham, our members, visitors and volunteers.

"We invite you to share any memories you have of Fiona."
