An Attleborough man has been jailed for five years for assaulting his former partner in the street.

38 year old David Bassett, of Harvest Road, will also serve three years on extended licence upon his release.

He was found guilty of grievous bodily harm at Norwich Crown Court earlier this month.

The attack happened on New Road in Attleborough on Novermber 13 2020. The victim pulled up alongside Bassett's van in a car and the pair started arguing.

Bassett then got out of his van and repeatedly punched the woman through an open car window.

The victim got out of the vehicle and the assault continued before Bassett drove off in her car.

The couple's baby was in the back.

In a Victim Impact Statement read out in court the woman said: “The whole incident has dramatically changed my life.

“And I now have to live with the memories, mental trauma, and scars for the rest of my life."

Det Con Vicki Homer said: “This was a nasty assault which has had a lasting impact on the victim.

"I hope this sentence sends out the message that this type of behaviour will not be tolerated."
