Man dies after plane crashes on an airfield in Beccles

Police and the AAIB are investigating

Suffolk Police have confirmed a man has died after a light aircraft crash on an airfield in Beccles.

Emergency services were called at around 2pm on Thursday 24th March to reports of the crash.

Police say only the man who died was on board the plane at the time of the crash.

His next of kin have been told.

They added it was attempting to land at the time of the crash.

Fire crews from Woodbridge, Leiston, Wrentham, Beccles, Lowestoft South, Bungay and Halesworth attended the scene.

The Air Accident Investigation Branch has been informed.

A spokesperson for the Air Accidents Investigation Branch (AAIB) said: “An accident at Beccles aerodrome involving a light aircraft was notified to the AAIB yesterday. An investigation has been launched into the accident.

"A team of inspectors arrived at the accident site yesterday to begin gathering evidence. They are continuing to work on site today.”
