Police warn of delays as 44-tonne boat moved from Lowestoft by road

Suffolk Police says it could cause some disruption.

Drivers out making essential journey's in Norfolk and North Suffolk today are being warned of some potential disruption as an abnormal load moves through the area.

Police will be escorting a 44-tonne boat, which is about 4.8m wide and almost 5m tall, from Lowestoft Marina to the Cambridgeshire border, where it'll then go on to Cumbria.

It's due to leave at 11.30am.

The route from the coast out to the Cambridgeshire border is: local roads, B1531, A1117, A146, A143, A146, A47, Cambs Border.

Delays are expected along these routes.

A number of other abnormal loads will be moving around the area over the next few days.

5 March

A gas vessel, 3.3m wide and 21m in length will be requiring police assistance as it travels from Wreningham to Lincoln, leaving at 12:00 on the following route: Local Roads – Wymondham Rd – Silfield St – Silfield Rd – The Street – Wymondham Rd – B1113 – A140 – A11 – A37 – A17 Lincs Border

7 March

Police will be escorting a boat hull, 6.09m wide and 31.5m length from Ashmanhaugh to Southampton. Leaving at 08:00 on the following route: Local Roads - Rectory Rd - School Rd - A1151 - A149 - B1152 - A1064 - A47 - A11 - A14 - A11 - M11 - M25 J25 Essex Border. Alternatively, it may follow this route instead; Local Roads - Rectory Rd - School Rd - A1151 A149 - B1152 - A1064 - A47 - A140 - Kettle Lane - A14 West - A11 - M11 - M25 J25 Essex Border
