Norwich City Hall is set to sell off an empty building once used as a dentist’s laboratory.

The single-storey property, on the junction of Rider Haggard Road and Gunn Road in Heartsease, has gone unused for two years.

Before that, it was occupied by a business producing dentures.

Who the proposed buyer is and how much they are offering has not been revealed by the council.

Officials at Norwich City Council have said the site is “not considered to be suitable for redevelopment” because the property is small, with a rear garden already sold off and adjacent ones sold via right-to-buy schemes.

A report to Norwich City Council’s cabinet said: “The property was let until July 2021 and traded as a dentist laboratory where they made dentures, paying £4,000 rent.

“No attempts were made to market the property due to the extensive repair works and the works required to obtain a satisfactory energy rating.

“It is estimated that at least £40,000 would have to be spent on the property to get it up to lettable standard.”

The cabinet is being asked to agree to sell the land at a meeting next Wednesday.
