More than a third of families are worried about feeding their children during the summer school holidays.

New research from Tesco also found 1 in 12 children being forced to miss meals as parents struggle with the extra costs that school holidays bring and a fifth of parents will go without to make sure their children get fed.

During previous holidays, almost a fifth of families (18%) had to seek support from a food bank or similar charity in order to put food on the table.

Hannah at the Norwich Trussell Trust Foodbank said: "We do expect a rise in families, we do expect more children to come to our distribution centres because if parents are struggling we know the children definitely are so there will be more people around at our centres.

"So it will be about making sure we are there with a smile, with a cup of tea ready to serve people. So we are ready if we need to be."

Hannah also said there is normally more to it than someone just needing food:

"We work with about 200 partners who can give really great support and advice to people on a huge range of topics so while we can do the food bit we want to make sure that help and support is there too. So the first point of call is asking, What are you struggling with? and then who can we get you in touch with who can help you with that issue and then refer you on to us."

"Our vision is to see an end to the need for food banks so even if we have a busy summer we're still striving towards how can we help people so we don't need to be here."

Tesco is also donating ÂŁ1 million to FareShare and the Trussell Trust.
