Officials have released a list of dozens of villages in an area of Norfolk where 1,200 new homes could be built in the next 15 years.

The details have been drawn up by South Norfolk Council, to identify suitable rural locations in the district for housing developments, to accommodate the region’s growing population.

In total, 48 villages are included in the South Norfolk Village Clusters Housing Allocations Plan (VCHAP).

The document is intended to outline the long-term housebuilding strategy for the area, by designating where housing growth can occur between now and 2038.

It is currently at its draft stage and has to be approved by the council’s cabinet and the secretary of state before it is brought into force.

If it is approved, the document will be used to help decide the outcome of future planning applications for the villages.

The villages set to get the most homes are Brooke, Pulham St Mary and Woodton, which are all allocated 50 new properties each.

South Norfolk Council’s final draft of the plan will go before cabinet on Monday for sign-off ahead of being submitted to the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities for independent examination.
