A 64-year-old man from Norfolk has been jailed after causing a serious crash in Cambridgeshire that left his passenger with a broken wrist.

Leigh Shelton was sentenced to two years and three months in prison at Peterborough Crown Court on Tuesday (2nd December).

He will also be banned from driving for four years when he’s released.

The court heard how he lost control of his car and flipped into a field whilst driving up to speeds of 100mph.

One of his passengers was taken to hospital and suffered a broken wrist.

A Cambridgeshire police spokesperson said, "Leigh Shelton, 64, picked up three people he knew in Littleport after their vehicle broke down on 16 June 2024.

"While driving along the A10 and A1101 towards Norfolk, he began overtaking vehicles and accelerating up to speeds of 100mph.

"Despite being told to slow down, he continued to speed and lost control of the Honda Civic, leaving the road and flipping into a field.

"Emergency services attended and one of the passengers was taken to hospital with a broken wrist.

"Shelton, of Fir Road, Thetford, Norfolk, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving."
