14 people have been injured, one seriously, after two Stagecoach buses crashed in Manchester city centre.

Emergency services rushed to the scene outside the Holiday Inn on Aytoun Street just after 7.30am where both drivers were among the injured.

None of the injuries were life threatening although two people were taken to Manchester Royal Infirmary.

It took recovery workers hours to maneuver both vehicles away from the scene due to problems with the brakes becoming jammed on one of the buses, as well as badly damaged windows on both.

It appears that one of the vehicles crashed into the back of the other.

In a statement, Stagecoach said: “Two of our vehicles were involved in a collision just before 8:00 this morning in Manchester City Centre. We understand that several people may have been injured in the incident and our first thoughts are for the welfare of all those involved.

“Safety is our absolute priority. We will be assisting police with their inquiries into the incident as well as carrying out our own investigation into the circumstances."
