Police appeal for any witnesses to the head-on collision

A man who died after a collision in Hazel Grove has been named.

At around 4pm on Sunday 24 April 2016 police were called to reports of a collision in Hazel Grove.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended and found a Mini had collided head-on with a Volvo on the A6, Buxton Road in Hazel Grove.

A man who has been formally identified as 43-year-old Philip Clayton sadly died at the scene.

A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital where he remains in critical condition.

A man and a woman were also taken to hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries.

Buxton Road was closed but has since reopened.

PC Phil Turley from GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit said: “This has been a tragic incident and our thoughts are with the family of Phillip who has sadly passed away.

“We are continuing to appeal for anyone who may have seen the incident or have any information to contact police.”
