Detectives are asking for the public to help with their investigation after a serious assault took place in Bolton late last night (Thursday 21 July 2022).

Sometime around 11pm on Deane Road, a man in his 20s was assaulted causing serious injuries to the head and wrist.

The incident happened on at the top of the road at the junction with Mayor Street, where two unknown males exited a bus stop before one got into an altercation with the victim and a subsequent chase occurred, where it is believed a large machete was present. The offender has been described as wearing light coloured trousers and a light coloured top, carrying a dark coloured rucksack.

Detective Inspector Tony Lunt, of Bolton CID said: "This is a serious assault and what looks to be an unprovoked attack on a young man. He is currently still in hospital having treatment on injuries we believe will be life changing.

“We are really keen to speak to anyone who was around the area late last night, as we believe they could help identify the two males in question, especially the offender.

“Any information, whether verbal or media based through dashcam footage, could prove to be significant and help bring the offender to justice as our investigative enquiries continue.”
