Red's supporters faced with road collapse and tram alterations

Published 17th Aug 2015

Football fans heading to home games at Manchester United’s Old Trafford ground this week are advised to plan their journey in advance due to changes to Metrolink services.

United take on Club Brugge (Tuesday 18 August KO 7.45pm) and Newcastle United (Saturday 22 August KO 12.45pm) and fans should allow plenty of time to get to the ground.

The St Peter’s Square Metrolink stop is closed for major transformation work with no trams currently running across the city centre.

The following Metrolink and bus travel options are available for travel from the city.

Metrolink

  • Follow the walking route signs to Deansgate-Castlefield tram stop to catch any tram as they all run within easy walking distance of Old Trafford. Allow approximately 20 minutes depending on your starting point. - The mobility impaired should catch a FREE Metroshuttle 2 green bus to Deansgate-Castlefield, which run every 10 minutes around the city centre. - Alternatively, a Metrolink replacement shuttle bus will run from Piccadilly Station direct to Trafford Bar, which is within walking distance of Old Trafford. Buy your Metrolink ticket before boarding the bus from a member of staff or the on-platform ticket machines. Staff will be on hand to direct you to these bus services which will also run back to Piccadilly Station from Trafford Bar after the match.

Metrolink services are running between Victoria and Piccadilly stations. If you are travelling on the Eccles, Manchester Airport, Altrincham or East Didsbury Metrolink lines your usual journey to the match will not be affected.
