Two men jailed after 11-year-old Tameside boy killed following hit and run.
Pair sentenced today.
Two men have been jailed for causing the death of 11-year-old Shahzaib Hussain by dangerous driving at Minshull Street Crown Court.
Henry Brandon Barker (16/06/1996) of Hampton Road, Failsworth was found guilty by a jury and sentenced to seven years for causing death by dangerous driving, one year and six months for causing death while driving uninsured and six months for dangerous driving following the collision. All the sentences will run concurrently.
He was also disqualified from driving for eight years, which will commence on his release from prison.
Aaron James Ward (14/09/1992) of Hattersley Road West, Hattersley was sentenced to one year and two months after pleading guilty to aiding and abetting an individual causing death while uninsured.
He was also handed a four-month sentence for breaching a suspended sentence and will be disqualified from driving for four years when he is released from prison.
At 4.45pm on Monday 29 February 2016, police were called to reports of a collision involving an 11-year-old boy and a Mercedes on Moss Street West at the junction with Mowbray Street in Ashton-under-Lyne.
The 11-year-old boy, formally identified as Shahzaib Hussain, was taken to hospital but sadly died a short time later.
The Mercedes, driven by Barker and with Ward in the passenger seat, failed to stop after the collision.
Police Constable Phil Turley of GMP’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: “The reckless actions of Barker and Ward caused the tragic death of Shahzaib, which is an irreparable pain his family will never recover from.
“Today’s sentencing is a small piece of triumph for Shahzaib’s family, who have not only been grieving their son but have been put through a gruelling time to get justice for their son.”
