The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for Greater Manchester after fog covered the entire city overnight.------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

As well as longer queues on the roads, the weather grounded a number of flights from Manchester Airport.

The majority of all outgoing flights were delayed with some people having to wait an extra hour before planes could depart.

A spokesperson from the airport said: "Like much of the UK, Manchester Airport has been affected by the fog and low visibility over the past couple of days."

"Passenger safety remains our number one priority and we will work with our third parties on site to ensure all passengers are cared for during these conditions."

In some areas in particular, visibility was reduced to less than 100m.

Officials have urged people to take extra care when travelling due to the reduced conditions and traffic build-up on the roads.
