A crew of firefighters remain at a derelict building in Stockport this morning (27th July) after three children were saved from a fire overnight.

Emergency services were called to the blaze on London Road in Hazel Grove at around 8.30pm yesterday evening.

The children were taken to hospital by NWAS paramedics. There are no updates on their conditions, although a spokesperson for NWAS said they suffered burns.

Lancashire Police have also been contacted for a comment.

A Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “At around 8.30pm this evening (26 July), we were called to reports of a fire on the first floor of a two-storey derelict commercial building on London Road, Hazel Grove, Stockport.

“Five engines from Offerton, Whitehill, Marple, Cheadle and Stockport, a hydraulic platform from Oldham and an additional crew from Cheshire arrived quickly arrived on the scene. Three children were rescued from the building by firefighters and were conveyed to hospital by paramedics.

“The fire was extinguished using six breathing apparatus, three hose reels, a short extension ladder, thermal imaging camera and other specialist equipment.

“One crew remains in attendance this morning.”
