Thousands of bottles of water have been delivered to schools in Tameside and Saddleworth this morning (December 12), after United Utilities issued a boiled water notice to parts of the area on Sunday (December 11). More than 170,000 bottles of water have been made available to schools and other priority customers such as nursing homes, until the boiled water notice can be lifted.

United Utilities has also set up drop-in sessions across the affected area, so that customers can talk to company representatives about any support they may need until the boil water notice can be lifted.

The locations for these centres are: Dukinfield Civic Hall, King Street Stalybridge Civic Hall, Trinity Street George Lawton Hall, Stamford Street, Mossley Approximately 17,000 properties are affected, covering the areas of Stalybridge, Dukinfield, Hyde, Denton, Saddleworth, Greenfield and Ashton Under-Lyne.

Customers in these areas are advised to boil their water for drinking and food preparation purposes, but they can continue to use their tap water for general domestic purposes such as bathing, flushing toilets or washing clothes.

The advice follows a technical fault on equipment at Buckton Castle water treatment works, which supplies the area.

The issue has now been fixed, but the boil water notice will remain in place until all the results from testing and sampling on water from the local network confirm supplies are back to normal. Further information, including answers to common questions, can be found at
