Police were called to Liverpool Road in Irlam just after 8pm last night, following reports of what looked like underage boys driving a 4x4.

Neighbourhood patrol officers located a vehicle matching the description, believed to be stolen, and engaged in a pursuit.

The car made off over Barton Moss, and eventually went into a ditch. Four teenagers left the vehicle and headed into the fields on foot.

Emergency services searched the area, and three teenage boys were arrested at the scene. A fourth boy was detained some time later on Dean Road in Cadishead.

Two 13-year-olds, a 14-year-old and a 16-year-old were taken to hospital and checked over for minor injuries. They were then taken into custody where they remain for questioning.

Inquiries are ongoing.
