A teenager is seriously injured after being shot in broad daylight in Manchester.

Police were called to Vale Street in Clayton just before 2.45pm yesterday (7th May) to reports a man had been shot in the leg.

It's understood the incident happened at a street BBQ as the victim was standing with a group of friends.

It's unclear at this stage whether the gun was fired from a car or by a person on foot.

Detective Inspector Claire Moss of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said:: “People will understandably be concerned that someone has been shot in broad daylight on their streets, but I want to assure them we are doing all we can to get to the bottom of what happened.

“We have increased patrols in the area and have a cordon in place, and I’d ask people to share any information that could help us identify the person responsible for such a violent attack with these officers.

“On such a warm bank holiday, people will have been in the area and someone out there will have the detail we need to hold the offender to account.

“If you know something that could help our enquiries, please get in touch with police as soon as you can.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident number 1453 of 07/05/18. Reports can also be made anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111
