Police were called just after 4pm to the A49 Winwick Road after the teenager was knocked off his bicycle by a silver Audi A6.

The car didn't stop at the scene and was found abandoned by officers in an alleyway near Longford Street and Rhodes Street.

The boy was airlifted to hospital where he remains and we're told his injuries are believed to be potentially life-changing.

Sergeant Anthony Gallagher said:

“The victim in this case sustained serious injuries and we’re committed to doing all we can to trace the person responsible.

“This incident happened at a busy time of day and as part of our enquiries, we would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident or has any dashcam or CCTV footage.

“The same goes for anyone who may have seen the suspected vehicle being abandoned or has any other information which could aid our investigation.
