An investigation's underway after a gang attacked a teenager in Wythenshawe.

It happened on Oatlands Road at about nine o clock last night (Wednesday 14th February 2018).

He was rushed to hospital with serious head injuries and is in a critical condition.

The investigation has, so far, found that the gang was possiblyfive orsix people strong and at least one of them had a baseball bat.

Detective Inspector Gareth Davies, of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said:

“We are still in the early stages of our investigation but what I can say is that this was clearly a brutal attack on a teenage boy by a group of people.

“He remains in a critical condition in hospital after undergoing emergency treatment and we are doing all we can to support his loved ones at this difficult time.

“Local residents may notice an increased police presence as we carry out enquiries this morning and I would encourage anybody who has concerns to approach one of our officers to raise these.

“If anybody has any information that they believe can assist our investigation then please come forward and contact police.”

Anybody with information should contact police on 101, quoting incident number 1928 of 14/02/18, or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
