Taxi driver killed after being knocked down by car followed by police in Denton

A man who died in a collision in Denton has been named.

Officers were on patrol in Denton at 12.45pm yesterday afternoon when they attempted to stop a white Vauxhall Mokka after their suspicions were raised.

The car failed to stop for officers and during a short pursuit, the car collided with several other cars, including a taxi and a man who was stood next to it.

The 64-year-old man, who has been formally identified as Allen Ingram, received emergency treatment at the scene but sadly died as a result of his injuries.

The incident has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct in line with normal policy.

A 37-year-old woman and a 39-year-old man were arrested but have since been released with no further action.

The driver of the Vauxhall Mokka fled from the scene and remains outstanding.

Chief Superintendent Neil Evans, said: “This is an absolutely devastating day for all involved, this completely innocent man has lost his life after getting caught up in this incident.

“The man’s family have now been made aware, my heart breaks at the thought of what they must be going through.

“We have a large operation in place to find the other man. If he is reading this, then I would say – do the right thing and hand yourself in. Show the family of this man some respect and face what you have done.

“I would also like to hear from any witnesses to the incident, or anyone who may be able to help our investigation.

“The incident has been referred to the Independent Office of Police Conduct in line with normal policy.”
