Stop and search powers have been introduced in part of Trafford for the second time in as many days.

Under Section 60, officers can stop search anyone in a defined area within a specific timeframe.

From this evening until 4am on Tuesday 29 November, GMP will be extending the powers in response to the stabbing and robbery of a 15-year-old boy in Old Trafford.

The same powers were initially introduced on Sunday afternoon for the same time period.

This is also in response to recent knife crime related incidents during the week.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We understand the use of a Section 60 can cause concern to residents, however, we use these powers only when proportionate and necessary.

"Officers out and about will continue to do all they can to keep you safe. Extra uniformed and non-uniformed officers have been deployed to the area to support the investigation team and the community.

"The force is also continuing to work with partner agencies to fight, prevent and reduce knife crime so anyone who knows or suspects someone is carrying a weapon to report it before it’s too late."
