Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service has released photos of a lorry fire, which crews tackled for seven and a half hours last night.

At around 7.30pm North West Fire Control received multiple reports of a fire involving an HGV on the hard shoulder of the M56, between junctions 12 and 14. Both carriageways were closed while they dealt with the incident.

The service has confirmed the driver escaped and is safe and well.

One lane of the eastbound carriageway remains closed between J14 (Hapsford) and J12 (Runcorn) as resurfacing works continue.
