Seven police cars damaged at Manchester music event

Investigations are continuing after a number of police vehicles were damaged at unlicensed music event in North Manchester.

Police were called to Charlestown Road, Blackley, at 9.50pm on Monday 2nd August to reports of loud music and a large crowd at Boggart Hole Clough.

Around 300 people had gathered and were dispersed by officers.

Following the dispersal, tyres were slashed on seven police cars and a windscreen smashed on one vehicle by unknown individuals near the entrance to the park on Charlestown Road.

Six of the cars have been repaired but one remains off the road. No officers were injured.

No arrests have been made and enquiries are ongoing.

Chief Inspector Simon Nasim, of GMP's City of Manchester's north division, said: "Thankfully our officers were able to put a swift end to the event and prevent further large numbers from attending, as well as ensuring a safe and orderly exit.

"Although many would have attended to have a good time unfortunately, some have not attended with the same intentions and seven police vehicles were damaged.

"Those responsible have shown a blatant disregard towards our communities and our ability to service emergency calls.

"They should wake up this morning feeling shameful of their actions and not proud."
