A Salford drug dealer is starting a 12 year prison sentence for his role in a £13.2m conspiracy to supply Class A and B drugs.

29 year old Christopher Davies admitted to two counts of conspiracy to supply class A drugs and one of conspiracy to supply class B drugs.

Operating under the username Wavyfire, Davies used encrypted messaging service EncroChat, to arrange the supply of drugs between 28 March 2020 and 29 May 2020.

EncroChat was a network used by criminals for illicit activities until June 2020. It was shut down after being compromised by police, with around 1,000 arrests made across Europe linked to EncroChat since then.

Detective Constable Dave Prowse, of GMP’s Organised Crime Unit, said: “The people responsible for the lists detailed within EncroChat the drugs supplied were operating on an industrial scale.

“The amount of cocaine alone was more than 20 times the amount sentencing guidelines provides as an indicative quantity for a category 1 offence. The money moved between them and their customers and suppliers topped £1 million.

“Davies presumed his communications were safe by using an encrypted device, but thanks to our officers we were able to use his words against him.”
