Salford City will have a shot at promotion to League One for the first time in their history, as they secure their play-off spot by just one goal.

Despite a narrow 1-0 loss to mid-table Gillingham on the final day, Salford saw off Mansfield for the final play-off spot on goal difference.

The late penalty scored by Gills' Cheye Alexander left a nail-biting end to the game.

To make history The Ammies had to hope Mansfield couldn't find two goals in the added time.

A late, late goal from Mansfield in the seventh of nine minutes of added time made the wait at the Peninsula Stadium even more tense.

Ultimately it was too little too late from The Stags and Salford's place in their first ever League Two play-off was confirmed by just one goal.
