Saddleworth Rangers Play All Night Match For New Clubhouse

Rugby Players at Saddleworth Club are to smash a world record, to raise money towards a new club house.

The Club House at Saddleworth Rangers is in a 'dire' state because there is no funding to maintain the building and it has got worse over the years. Now the community want to change that and make it a place that the younger players can be proud of. At the moment, they say they are even too embarrassed to invite other teams for matches.

The World Record is for the longest ever touch rugby match, 28 players play for 30 hours from 10am on Saturday 29th August to 4pm on Sunday 30th August. The amount raised is around £10,000, that will go towards a fund to re-build the club.

Wendy Garforth played for GB in the Women's Rugby League and she's involved, she told Key 103;

'They've got lots and lots of youth teams here and we believe that grass roots is how we build the future. Loads of stars have come from this club, the likes of Yestin Harris, Kevin Sinfield, the Greenwood boys, so there is lots of future here for these children.'

Wendy's husband Chris Garforth helped organise the money raising event:

'It's been 50 years since they built it. The Youth section at our club is amazing, we have ten teams at the minute and it would be nice for them to have a nice club to grow into.'
