Rusholme Bar Manager Found Guilty Of Murder 4 Years After The Assault

A bar manager of a Rusholme pub, who’s in prison for the serious assault of a man, has now been found guilty of his murder four years later.

33 year old George Harris died back in 2013 after being assaulted inside the pub in July 2011.

David Keane was sentenced to 6 years in prison in February 2012 for causing grievous bodily harm with intent inside the Huntsman pub.

Mr Harris was found collapsed in his home on new year’s eve in 2013 – and had died as a result of the assault.

David Keane was subsequently charged with his murder.

Fran Gough, Senior Crown Prosecutor for the North West Complex Casework Unit said:

“David Keane punched George Harris, dragged him to the floor and stamped on his head following a verbal altercation inside the pub he managed. He stamped on him with such force that he left a distinctive footprint on his face from the trainers he wore.

“Mr Harris received serious and life changing injuries, resulting in him suffering both physically and psychologically right up until the end of his life. Doctors diagnosed him with post traumatic epilepsy which ultimately resulted in his death almost 18 months after he was assaulted.

“After carefully considering all the evidence presented during the trial, the jury has agreed with the prosecution case that the defendant intended to cause serious harm to Mr George Harris, and that Mr Harris died as a direct result of the injuries inflicted on him by the defendant .

"Mr Harris’ mother has shown great dignity throughout the trial, our thoughts are very much with her and other family members and friends at this time. I sincerely hope that today’s outcome gives them a sense that justice has now been served.”
