Rochdale's potholes to be filled in as part of £1 million scheme.

Potholes across Rochdale are set to be filled in over the next eight months as part of a new £1 million scheme. The Rochdale Borough council cash injection, which topped up the sum of £121,000 given by central government, is now being spent, with contractors Balfour Beatty currently working through a hitlist of sites identified by the council. The money is in addition to the £2.429m which will be spent on general road and footway repairs this financial year, including verge improvements, installing new signs and lines and resurfacing. Councillor Neil Emmott, Cabinet Member for Highways and Environment at Rochdale Borough Council, said: “We know that having good quality roads is an important quality of life issue for our residents, so we’re going above and beyond to ensure our highways are in tip top condition. “Our contractors will be out and about each and every day repairing the roads and residents will start to see improvements very soon. We will still respond to potholes reported by our residents in the usual way and this work will complement that.” The repair programme, which will be scheduled month to month, will see the most severe potholes targeted across the different townships. The massive repair programme will be supported by work to repair potholes which are reported by residents and councillors throughout the year. When a pothole is reported, engineers go out and inspect the road and if the hole is deemed to be severe, it will be repaired within 20 days. If the hole isn’t repaired straight away, engineers will continue to monitor it regularly. The road repair programme and pothole repair schedule can be viewed at: www.rochdale.gov.uk/highways
